This page is dedicated to Robert Woods, Edward Barton, Roberta Grahame, and all the Eoff researchers past, present, and future.

Also, to my great grandmother, Eliza Jane Eoff Spencer, because if I hadn't been looking for her, I never would have found the rest!

Did you know?...

  • Family Nicknames - Some of the most common names in the Eoff family have been Isaac and John. This caused much confusion over the years, especially in times when there were multiple family members with those names within a community. Because of this, several family members are known by knicknames that distinquish one from another. Some family knicknames are, Long Ike, Prairie John, Humpty John, Go Back John and Come Back Lizzie. John and Lizzie received their names because John kept moving from Carroll Co. to Izard Co., and his wife, Lizzie, was always making him Come Back to Carroll Co.
  • At least two Eoffs have served time in prison -Richard Eoff, born in Burnsville, Mo on August 9, 1900, spent time in Illinois State Reformatory. He is said to have been arrested because he buried an axe, which just happened to be in his wife's head. and
Carl Dobbins, grandson of Eliza Jane Eoff Spencer, died in the electric chair in Texas in the 1930s. He accidently shot and killed his mother in law (he was aiming at his wife!).
  • Also, at least two Eoffs were doctors in the 1800's -John Eoff of Wheeling, West Virginia and another John Eoff of Savannah, Tennessee.
  • Twins run in the Eoff family - There are several notations of twins, two of which were the twin sons of James Monroe Eoff, and Jasper E. Eoff and his twin, John Newton Eoff. Jasper and Newton, being named for the town and county name where the Eoff homestead is located in AR.
